Public
safety in our communities has been front and center over the last few
years and I am pleased to tell you that I have supported greater RCMP
policing efforts throughout District 1, including the new North Central
Detachment in Middle Musquodoboit. I have also offered assistance to our
Ground Search & Rescue organizations.
As
well, for the very first time we have also been successful in securing
funding to hire full time firefighters to assist the volunteers in the
Musquodoboit Valley and the Eastern Shore that require greater daytime
coverage.
The
completion of the new fire station in Moser River has been a great asset
to the Eastern Shore and continued investment in equipment and upgrades
to several other stations has been well received by their
departments.
I
am proud to announce the approval of funding of almost $1.2 million for
a brand new, state-of-the-art fire station for the Dutch Settlement
& Area Volunteer Fire Department. This new station has been years in
the making and will allow our firefighters to provide better protection
and service to their surrounding communities.
